In Good Company
The stone bench under the water oak tree
In
my side lawn is one of my favorite places to be
Listen to me when I tell you for it is true
There
is no place around with a better veiw
From there I can see the driveway down the hill
I
can survey the squirrels that cross there at will
They come along to steal the pecans from the tree
My
little dog and they put on quiet a show for me
Seventeen wild turkeys I`ve counted at a time
There
have been pheasants marching in a line
There`s a rust brown ground hog living on the hill
He
never sees me and if I`m still,he never will
Around the birdfeeder finches and cardinals
All
manner of sparrows and wrens after the culls
The mourning doves always feed along the ground
Calling
and marching like soldiers drilling around
There`s butterflies in the flowers, fliting about
I
need to find more time to go and just sit out
There`s brown rabbits that roam here all over
Content
to let me sit and watch them dine on clover
Did I mention the humming birds after the honeysuckle
And
when they tire of that, they`re in the tulip tree
Then there`s the lazy cat waiting for kittens to suckle
I stay so long
on the bench because there`s so much to see
There`s such goings on here and such wonderful
company
Then someone spies me and concerned says," what`s wrong?
Why are you sitting out here by yourself all alone?"
All
alone??No,not me.........
